Classics Reborn

The Project Cycle

Each restoration follows the same pattern due to a well established and organised way of working.

Firstly, if practicable, the bike is ridden. This allows us to evaluate the engine, gearbox, suspension, frame etc. This gives us an initial idea of what the task of restoration will involve.

it may be that mechanically the bike is good and just the cosmetics need attention, or it may tell us that the engine needs to be totally stripped and rebuilt.

After the evaluation phase the bike is carefully stripped. All components, down to every last nut and bolt, are retained, bagged and labelled. If parts are serviceable it is far better to reuse original parts than to simply buy new ones. All useable parts will be cleaned, replated and reused. We feel the original parts of a motorcycle are what make it what it is, replacements always take something away from that.

Once the bike is dismantled the frame is finished to customers specification, either powder coat or, normally, 2 pack acrylic.

At this stage any engine or gearbox work will be undertaken.

The frame is then put on the rebuild bench and work can begin. To prevent damage to the frame, the engine is usually laid on its side and the frame is carefully placed over it and all the mounting holes are matched and a couple of bolts are inserted and the whole thing is turned right side up.

Once the engine is fitted, every other component is carefully cleaned and examined for either refinishing, refurbishment or replacement and fitted to the bike.

We will then thoroughly test the electrics and start the bike. This is always followed by a test run to ensure all is OK.
